As air pressure is applied to the brake chamber, it pushes the pushrod, which in turn rotates the slack adjuster, causing the brake camshaft to move and apply the brakes.
There are several types of automatic slack adjusters available for heavy-duty trucks and trailers, including manual slack adjusters and self-adjusting slack adjusters. Manual slack adjusters require regular manual adjustment to maintain the proper brake shoe clearance, while self-adjusting slack adjusters use a mechanism to automatically adjust the clearance.
